Amsterdaaaam! Visited the Frozen Fountain, the Stedelijk museum, Droog, Foam, and various other little shops which were all really lovely. All the architecture is so interesting, and it is definitely somewhere I'd visit again.

Colour
Next I began exploring more with colour, as I have only been using black and white so far. I chose to look at flowers as these are also relevant to the natural theme of trees which has been running throughout my project. I then plan on importing these on to illustrator, to then modify and create new patterns out of.

Development
Using Illustrator I tried experimenting more creating different patterns. First, I traced over two drawings I had previously done using the vector tool, so that they became shapes I could manipulate...
I decided to keep these in black and white, and then started playing with them and creating patterns. I especially like the bottom design, as it has a zigzag effect which was popular in the 1920s, and so this is definitely something I will continue looking at as this would make the pattern obviously relevant to my project brief.

More tree drawings
To develop my ideas forward I have now begin to look more in detail at the trees, rather than just their basic outlines. I used fine liner for all the drawings, and tried to use mark making rather than shading to create the different tones and patterns within each tree. I chose to keep these black and white too, as I quite like the contrasting effect, adn I think it makes the images more striking.

Adobe illustrator workshops
As this module is called Design for Digital Print I have to do several illustrator workshops, to learn the basics of the program. The samples below were created by tracing and drawings shapes, then using the rotate tool to create a detailed circle design. This is a really easy technique which creates complicated looking designs, and so is something I shall consider using for my final print later on.

Silhouettes
To continue with my research into trees I have started looking at their basic silhouettes, as I love the movement all the branches create. I did these in black and white, whcih is an effect I feel works really well as the tree image stands out and it creates quite a nice contrast.

Trees
After going home for the week I have decided to definitely base my project on trees. I love the autumnal colours the leaves are turning, and also feel that I could create some interesting patterns based around entwining branches and the texture of different types of bark. I have taken lots of tree photos, which I will begin to deconstruct and focus on drawing particular features of.
